Is losing a pet like losing your mum?

You may think that this is an odd statement – but many people have a very strong link to their pets, many think of them as family and would be devastated if they lost their pet.

If you have a new baby or young family, then you will know the instant bond that forms between yourself and your baby. This bond also forms over time with our pets, particularly dogs and cats – these are pets that we interact with, feed and look after on a daily basis. We come to think of them as family members and “humanise” their actions, rationalising their actions, and our behavior as we would any other family member. Examples of this include feeding your pet at the dinner table, dressing them up in human type clothes, counseling for our pets and in some cases, pushing a dog around in a pram. This type of bond is common and people do view their pets as a new baby, from our experience pets are a lot easier to look after than babies, but the bond can still be as strong.

If you are ever misfortunate enough to lose a pet, then you’ll probably experience a huge sense of worry and concern. Specialist pet search and rescue services are available, and one that we like is the pet detective firm Animal Search UK. Perhaps you know of others that you could recommend?
