* 4oz butter
* 6oz sugar (1/2 Cup)
* 2T cocoa
* 1T golden syrup
* 1 egg
* 2C white flour
* 1C milk
* 1t baking powder
* 1t baking soda

turn on oven 200C
grease ring tin (or muffin pans)
cream butter, sugar and cocoa
add golden syrup and egg then mix again
dissolve baking soda in milk
add flour and baking powder
tip in milk & soda mixture
mix
put in tin and in oven
(it’s important not to dawdle once the mixture has got wet)
bake for about 40min (~20min for muffins)
it’s done when a sharp knife or skewer comes out clean
baking time varies a bit from oven to oven so I’d test it after about 30mins to see how it’s progressing.
Once it’s cooked sit it on a cooling rack for ten minutes. Then and only then turn it out of the tin. If you turn it out too soon it falls apart and if you leave it too long it wont come out. You should be able to touch the tin without an oven glove, but it’s still warm.
Once cold ice with the chocolate icing of your choice.
